Jillian Shea releases her first single, Story
We met her on the television channel Disney XD conquering the screen with her jokes in the program "Walk the Prank," but this girl of 15 years has more to give and now she shows us her multifaceted and talented side as a singer and composer whose natural instincts they give it an original, acoustic and fun sound, and that's what brings us with its new single "Story."
Jillian began to sing and play the piano at an early age, she discovered her love for the guitar at 12 and now she is passionate about writing and recording her original Music .
She releases her first single, "Story," which was produced in Los Angeles and mastered on Capitol Records. A native of the Philadelphia area who lives primarily in Los Angeles, Jillian began her career as an actress with several roles in the regional musical theater. It was a trip to Hollywood that changed Jillian's life through a chance meeting with her current manager, who encouraged her to consider moving to California to enter the television industry.
In his first three months in Hollywood, she appeared on the digital series DreamWorksTV OMG!, had a secondary role as a guest on Nickelodeon's Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, and reserved the regular role of the series in "Walk the Prank," currently in its third season.
Jillian, the youngest of three siblings, holds the "Children International" charity close to her heart for her dedication to giving children around the world the same chance of success.
Star of "Disney's Walk to Prank" for three seasons.
Presenter in 2018 at the Radio Disney Music Awards
Catchy pop sensitivity
"Story", the new single has pop sensibilities filled with a contagious and catchy environment for Jillian's contemporary listeners, as it tackles the drama that comes from real-life events.
The refrain merges with electronic rhythms accompanied by an optimist futuristic bass. The theme possesses the youthful energy that characterizes our young talent.
The fresh voice of Shea and her sincere lyrics will touch the sensitive fiber of young listeners as the single comes alive to reality as they feel they have experienced similar situations.
“Story” is the new single just released by the spirited teen-pop sensation, Jillian Shea. The single tells the tale of the drama surrounding relationships and how hard it is to give someone up even though you know you should.
Jillian is an extremely talented teen who writes and sings her own music and is also an actress appearing on the Disney XD scripted-Improv series, “Walk the Prank” as “Bailey,” the only female lead on the show. She discovered her love of guitar at age 12 and is now writing and recording her own original music. My prediction for her is that she will become the next Ariana Grande or better.
We shared some questions and answers regarding a career….
You are probably the next Ariana Grande, only better…. who are your influences musically?
My biggest influences are Tori Kelly and Ed Sheeran. Working with either one of them–or both–would be a dream come true.
Do you write your own songs and if so where do you get your themes?
I write almost all of my own music, but sometimes I collaborate with friends or family on the lyrics. “Story” was all me! I get my themes from what’s occurring around me, like my own and my friends’ experiences.
Aside from singing you are also an actress, what was/is your most “fun” role, or experience you’ve had thus far?
Playing the part of Bailey on “Walk the Prank” was such a great experience for me. I made so many good friends through that show. Because the show was a combination of scripted scenes and real-life pranks, I got to play a lot of other fun characters when doing the pranks, like a robot, ghost, possessed girl, and even a creepy psychic! It was my first series regular role, so no matter what other parts I get, Bailey will always hold a special place in my heart.
How’d you acquire your massive social media following?
I think it’s important to be a role model for other girls, so I always tried to have a platform teens can enjoy and communicate with me. When Musical.ly was at its peak, I posted a lot of videos, especially when I had covers to share. I try to post daily on Instagram and collaborate with other artists so we can help each other discover new followers.
How are you involved with “Children International?”
Since I was young, my family has always sponsored several children through this organization, which helps kids in developing countries with medicine, education, clothing and basic needs so they will be more successful in life. I try to spread the word about how easy it is to sponsor kids, and I have occasionally done some small fundraisers to donate money. I hope to do more in the near future.
Which do you find more challenging, music or acting and why?
Both the acting and music industries have their challenges at times, but I really enjoy doing both. Writing and singing my own songs is pretty rewarding, though, so I’m glad I am able to work on music when I’m not acting.
Are you working on a next project?
I hope to follow up “Story” with another new single (or two!) this fall.
It’s an interesting scene when it comes to bass music lately; a couple of years ago, many people said dubstep, drum and bass and even future bass had hit their individual strides and not much else could be done with them from an EDM standpoint. That was before pop got a hold of them, and no matter what your opinion on the matter, pop does indeed have a hold. Such is the case for new bubblegum singer Jillian Shea and her first single, “Story.”
The teen singer/songwriter Shea is about as pop as they come, having previously starred in Disney’s “Walk the Prank” and other Disney and Nickelodeon shows, but she does have firm roots in music. Shea began singing and playing piano quite young, and she picked up the guitar at age 12. This would explain the sort of poppy folk feel to the vocals and main melody of “Story,” and it’s also what makes the track so interesting as a future bass track. How do you combine pop, folk, future bass and even some synthy dream pop? Ask Jillian Shea and her collaborators, apparently.
With all those styles, one might think “Story” would be choppy and disjointed, but the afore-mentioned use of dream pop-style synths in the track sort of smooths the gap between vox and beat, making “Story” quite cohesive and well-composed. It’s also an interesting answer to the question of whether bass music has hit its peak creatively and can it go other places: in future bass’s case, it can indeed.
While a lot of fun and wholly danceable, it’s unlikely that ravers will see this original version of “Story” on the dancefloor at a festival or club, but it’s not far off the mark there. If the right producer wants to remix it, “Story” could definitely be a fun transition track at an outdoor venue. It may not be EDM, but it’s certainly EDM-ready.
As “Story” is Shea’s first single, it’s unclear if she’ll be sticking with pop-plus-EDM-equals-something-new format, but if she does she may definitely be on to something. Either way it will be interesting to see what she comes up with next.
“Story” by Jillian Shea is out now on Magic Bean Records and available to stream on Soundcloud or Spotify.
Singer-songwriter and musician Jillian Shea is bringing to pop lovers her debut single, “Story.” The juicy new single has catchy pop sensibilities filled with an infectious and contagious vibe as it addresses the drama that underlines the storyline.
About the conflict that comes with relationships, the chorus carries through with buoyant electronic beats and an upbeat future bass tune. The track has a youthful energy to it that gives off an energized appeal.
Shea’s fresh vocals and heartfelt lyrics will strike a chord with listeners as the single brings to life the realities of being in a relationship with a maturity and sophistication beyond her years.
Jillian Shea is also known as an actor, currently starring on the hilarious Disney XD scripted-improv series Walk the Plank as ‘Bailey.’ She has also appeared in the digital DreamWorksTV series OMG! and had a guest starring role on Nickelodeon’s Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn.

Keep scrolling to check out the scenic visual and to get the inside scoop on all things Jillian: from her inspiration behind the song to favorite lyrics and everything in between!
Can you talk about the inspiration behind “Story”?
Jillian: I thought about what it’s like when friendships or relationships become one-sided, and “Story” came from that.
Do you have a favorite lyric from the song?
Jillian: My favorite line is, “I don’t know if it’s worth trying to go back to what it was before,” because I think it describes one of those internal conflicts we’ve all had with ourselves about whether or not a relationship is worth continuing.
How would you describe your musical sound in three words?
Jillian: I’d describe my sound as original, acoustic, and fun. I originally wrote this song on the acoustic guitar, but I decided I really wanted a beat drop. Maybe I’ll post the acoustic version at some point!
Is there an overall message to your music?
Jillian: My music really stems from real life events, so I guess I want my songs to be relatable to most other kids my age. I want people to be able to listen to my songs and feel like they have experienced similar things.
What’s one thing fans would be surprised to know about shooting the music video?
Jillian: We wanted to film it [in my hometown] since it’s my first video, and Philly always holds a special place in my heart.
Is there anything else about the music video you want our readers to know, like fun-facts or on-set memories?
Jillian: Filming this music video involved a lot of close friends. My good friend Matt Martinez co-stars and my good family friends filmed and edited the video for us. We actually shot some of the scenes in the park near my childhood home, so the music video is really personal to my life growing up in Pennsylvania.
If you could tell your fans one thing, what would it be?
Jillian: Don’t worry about what other people think of you; just be yourself no matter what.
